For many, Gary Oldman is the definitive Commissioner Gordon. The British Actor owned the role in The Dark Knight Trilogy, and with news that actor J.K. Simmons is now taking the role for WB’s current DC Cinematic Universe, many come into the casting with mixed feelings. Starting with ‘Justice League’ J.K. Simmons will be playing Commissioner Gordon opposite to Ben Affleck’s Batman. While details are scarce on how many films Simmons will appear in, its likely that this wont be a one-off.

Speaking with Yahoo, Gary Oldman was asked about Simmons taking on the role:

“God bless him. Good luck.”

Oldman then commented on the role itself:

“The thing you’ve just got to get used to with Gordon is he’s a really sound detective, first of all, and he’s really incorruptible, which is a kind of wonderful quality to play and sort of, like, true blue.”

“He’s like a Watson, oddly, He’s sort of like Watson to Sherlock, is Gordon to Batman.”

Its definitely nice to see that Oldman isn’t holding any sour feeling on the role being recast, and with Justice League scheduled to actually start shooting this coming Monday, it likely won’t be long until fans get an official look at J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.
